Working With A Shaman
Shamans work with all types of health & life issues – physical & mental illnesses,
emotional struggles, self-
They approach healing from the perspective of the soul; meaning that Shamans see
all illness, disease, or struggle as having a root in the soul rather than the day-
Most Shamans available outside of indigenous communities use one or more of these techniques:
Shamanic Journey
This is a deep form of meditative work which is the foundation of all Shamanic Healing. It’s generally done within a ritualized context of some sort and is accompanied by a steady drum beat or steady musical tones that help the mind both focus and free itself. Sometimes the client is guided through a journey by the shaman. Sometimes the shaman journeys on behalf of the client. Among other things, journeys are excellent for deepening your connection with your soul and the world of Spirit, for helping you access your own wisdom, for opening your intuition, and for discovering what stands in your way in any facet of your life.
Connecting With Totem Animals & Wisdom Teachers
This generally occurs within the context of a shamanic journey. This type of journey may be undertaken by the Shaman on behalf of the client or the Shaman may guide the client through the journey. Totem Animals and Wisdom Teachers are spiritual allies who’ve agreed to help us as we walk through our lives on Earth. When you’re seeking spiritual allies, want to expand your spiritual skills, or want to know who’s available to help you, this type of work can be exactly what you need.
Extraction
This type of work is almost always done by the shaman on behalf of the client. It’s generally used only when working with a persistent physical illness or mental/emotional illness. Extraction work involves a shamanic journey to find the source of the illness and remove it from the energy pattern of the client. A good extraction session will include work that refills the point of extraction with energy that supports wholeness.
Soul Retrieval
Soul Retrieval is based on the observation that we splinter off segments of consciousness when we’re deeply or repeatedly traumatized. In psychological terms, this is called dissociation. When this splintering occurs, part of you holds the traumatic memory safely away from your consciousness so you can move on with life. It’s a great immediate defense in the face of something the mind just can’t get comfortable with.
When the trauma has passed, it’s important to retrieve the memory and synthesize
it into your consciousness. When this isn’t done, part of you continues living in
the past to maintain guard over the trauma. This causes our well-
Soul Retrieval is performed through a shamanic journey and it reunites the splintered off parts so you can again have access to all of yourself. The Shaman may partner with the client for this journey by performing some ceremony and then sitting or lying side by side; touching hands, shoulders, or hips and journeying without speaking until the Shaman feels complete. Shamans also guide clients through soul retrievals journey rather than journeying with them.
